Biography
Person.
Neneh Cherry is a Swedish-born singer and songwriter whose work has moved between punk, hip-hop, pop and improvised music. After arriving in London she became involved with the Slits and Rip Rig + Panic. Her 1989 album Raw Like Sushi, including “Buffalo Stance”, brought that cross-cultural background into international pop.
Later recordings include the Youssou N’Dour duet “7 Seconds” and The Cherry Thing, made with Scandinavian jazz trio the Thing. On Broken Politics, released in 2018, she worked with producer Four Tet on songs connecting personal experience with social and political questions. Her memoir A Thousand Threads recounts the relationships and music that shaped her life.
