Biography

Person.

Stephen Morris is an English drummer and musician, born in Macclesfield in 1957, who played in Joy Division and became a founding member of New Order. His career connects the concentrated rhythms of the former group with New Order’s developing combination of rock instruments and electronic dance music.

He has also worked with Gillian Gilbert as the Other Two. His memoirs Record Play Pause and Fast Forward recount growing up in the north-west, working with Joy Division and the subsequent history of New Order. They place the practical work of making music alongside the personal experiences behind the bands’ public histories.
