Biography

Person.

George Clinton is an American singer, songwriter, producer and bandleader central to the development of funk. Beginning with the doo-wop group the Parliaments, he built the overlapping Parliament and Funkadelic ensembles, combining soul, psychedelic rock and dance rhythms with elaborate costumes and science-fiction imagery.

Their recordings include Flash Light and One Nation Under a Groove. Clinton began releasing solo albums with Computer Games in 1982, which included Atomic Dog, while continuing to work with members of the wider P-Funk collective. His approach made recording, performance and visual invention parts of a shared musical world.
