Designer
Not credited by a secure name. Reverse has small logo/fist and 'design 0703 383578' (as best read), but maker identity uncertain. The circular eagle graphic visually adapts a US presidential/Great Seal composition similar to the Ramones seal logo originally created by Arturo Vega; Vega is NOT credited as this flyer's designer and his actual involvement is not evidenced.

High-confidence original 1991-period item from physical typography, event details, other original-flyer seller date and corroborated Madisons venue era. Copy's manufacturing provenance not authenticated.

Complete as a standalone double-sided flyer; illustrated front and emblem/date reverse supplied.
Absolute rarity
Unknown. Independent seller advertises comparable same-event original material, without verifying edition matching or number surviving. No print run, circulation or surviving-copy population; an unsold asking price is not evidence of market value.
Acquisition rarity
Not assessed.

Catalogue note

Original double-sided black-and-white Dreamtime Promotions rave handbill for Thursday 15 August 1991 at Madisons Nightclub, Leicester Road, Nuneaton, 9pm–2am. Its angular white skull on deep black and giant Dreamtime typography frame DJ names Skid, Roda, 'Doc Scot' (canonical Doc Scott) and Top Buzz. Reverse reworks a circular heraldic eagle-and-stars seal with the DJ names around it, closely resembling the Ramones logo's treatment of American presidential imagery, with E PLURIBUS UNUM and small unidentified design/telephone imprint. The flyer omits a year but a second specialist seller independently catalogs the exact named event 15/8/91, while Borosix holds a separate Madisons rave flyer from February 1991. The graphic connects punk-inspired design and original regional Midlands rave culture; no verified artist-design author, performance recording or first print.

Advertised programme: SKID; RODA; DOC SCOT [original one-T spelling of canonical DJ Doc Scott]; TOP BUZZ. The lower two names have established current TMR People authorities. Skid/Roda legal and stage identities unverified; all performances are advertised and not confirmed.

Graphic-design significance: A strong early rave print in stark black/white: giant stretched angular DREAMTIME display, fractured human skull and decorative display names contrast with the reverse circular star-ring heraldic eagle using 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. The reverse emblem resembles the emblem layout of Arturo Vega's Ramones seal, itself adapted from the Great Seal/US presidential seal; the flyer replaces the circular member names with the DJ roster, a reasoned visible reinterpretation rather than proof the band or Vega contributed. Ink-heavy low-palette design links early punk iconography, formal state emblems and rave aesthetics. Small reverse possible design credit/number preserved but designer unknown.

Historical context: A seller-catalogued another original flyer for Dreamtime at Madisons Nuneaton dates 15 August 1991, resolving the present handbill's missing year. Borosix documents Underground at Madisons Nuneaton on 14 Feb 1991, independently situating venue in contemporary Midlands nightlife. Doc Scott/Top Buzz are listed on original-period audio archives together at Amnesia House's Eclipse Coventry 8 Feb 1991, a distinct event. As a comparatively small 9pm–2am nightclub programme this belongs to formative local hardcore/house dissemination before the larger mid-1990s events. Arturo Vega was the designer of the Ramones seal derived from US presidential imagery, documented by his original interviews and later accounts; the specific Dreamtime adaptation maker is not established.

Production note: Bold solid black and off-white graphics and lettering, reverse eagle with small halftone dots. Exact silk-screen/offset/photocopy method, paper weight and finish unknown.

Condition note: Very Good provisional from supplied two photographs: generally strong black-and-white contrast, clear lettering, original rectangular margins, mild small edge/corner rubs and few isolated surface/age specks. No evident substantial tear, loss, fold, pinhole or tape. Paper/stock not inspected physically; not mint.

Confidence / uncertainty: PHYSICAL: Dreamtime Promotions, black/white skull and eagle, SKID RODA DOC SCOT TOP BUZZ, Madisons Leicester Road Nuneaton, Thursday Aug 15, 9pm–2am, no year or admission price. INDEPENDENT: exact-title/location/year seller listing 15/8/91 and different Madisons Feb 1991 flyer; original Ramones logo history; other date/venue Doc Scott/Top Buzz original 1991 audio. UNKNOWN: other two DJs' identities, exact venue operations/legal promoter, actual performance, designer, edition/print run/size, and market value. Printed 'DOC SCOT' normalised to Doc Scott with original spelling retained.
