Event
Dance ’91 — The Pure Organisation's Norwich Sports Village rave
Promoter
The Pure Organisation, plainly printed at the top of cover and reverse. Existing authoritative TMR organisation reused; Pure also presents other distinct 1993 events TMR-000843 and TMR-000875. Independent period original Dance ’91 flyers evidence same organiser at Picketts Lock (18 May), Tonbridge (21 June), Norwich (20 July), Farnborough (2 August) and Birmingham (20 December 1991), without conflating separate events.
Venue
Norwich Sports Village
Location
Original prints 'NORWICH SPORTS VILLAGE'. Heritage research identifies the historic complex at Drayton High Road, Hellesdon, Norwich, Norfolk NR6 5DU, now Grade II listed (National Heritage List Entry 1493666, first listed 12 January 2026). Street and postcode are archival-research context and not claimed printed on this flyer; no specific hall within the village is identified.
Advertised hours
Reverse includes partial 'ALL N...' and a clock time clearly ENDING '-7am'; starting hour and complete original wording destroyed. Therefore advertised as all-night with 7am printed as apparent end, but no verified starting time. Do not infer '9pm–7am' from other Pure Organisation events.
Original admission / price
Historical ticket price and booking fee cannot be established from this owner copy: substantial surface loss cuts across the reverse ticket/agent instructions and lower footer. No admission price is invented or copied from a different Dance ’91 venue/date.
Designer
Unknown. Specialist exact-original Phatmedia archive lists 'Flyer design Unknown'. Do not attribute the design to another early-1990s rave graphic artist based on visual similarity alone.
Format
Single rectangular double-sided portrait original promotional flyer; richly illustrated colour front with enormous dimensional lettering; severely surface-damaged black original event-information reverse with partly surviving yellow national-ticket-outlet panel.
Dimensions
Not physically measured. Seller examples describe A5 but owner's physical dimensions were not verified; no centimetres or definitive edition size assigned.
Orientation
Portrait front/reverse.
Original / reproduction
High-confidence original July 1991 flyer based on physical date, period wear and independent archival photographs of matching event/design. Exact owner-paper manufacture provenance and original distribution history unknown.
Edition / variant
Dance ’91 — Norwich Sports Village — 20 July 1991 multicolour giant 3D type edition. Other 1991 Dance ’91 dates/venues are SEPARATE event prints. No documented alternate colour print state, reprint or numbered edition of this particular Norfolk programme.
Condition
Poor to Fair overall (front Fair–Good, heavily damaged reverse Poor with large irreversible-looking original print loss); photographic assessment.
Completeness
One physically surviving original two-sided flyer with both faces photographed. There is severe INTEGRAL ORIGINAL INFORMATION LOSS on the reverse, not evidence of a missing separate insert. The event text cannot be considered complete; the front still provides event/date identity.
Absolute rarity
Unquantified. Phatmedia and ClassicTrax reproduce other surviving contemporary original examples, a seller lists another copy, and a historic sale list notes a Norwich example, so no one-of-one claim. Actual printing quantity, surviving count, edition number and distribution unknown.
Acquisition rarity
Not assessed.

Catalogue note

An original, materially distressed two-sided promotional flyer for The Pure Organisation's Dance ’91 event at Norwich Sports Village on Saturday 20 July 1991. The front shows a spectacular multicolour 3D 'DANCE ’91' title thrusting forward over layered geometric patterns; the date and venue survive. The heavily damaged reverse has broad areas of missing original printed surface that destroy much of the all-night programme and yellow ticket-agent panel. Carl Cox, Colin Dale, Trevor Fung and 'Simon Bassline' survive in parts, while an independent other-copy listing names Craig T. Phatmedia and ClassicTrax independently archive the event; other 1991 Dance ’91 original flyers and firstperson clubgoing memories situate it in The Pure Organisation's touring series. Norwich Sports Village is now a Historic England Grade II-listed Heinz Isler concrete-shell complex (first listed 2026), making the flyer a valuable local urban/architectural and youth-culture documentary trace despite its poor overall condition. Full missing roster, exact admission/start time, designer and original print quantities not fabricated.

Advertised programme: Damage-qualified physical DJ bill: COLIN [surname destroyed] / COLIN DALE / SIMON BASSLINE [last portion destroyed, securely resolves to Simon Bassline Smith as existing known DJ] / TREVOR FUNG / CARL COX / a partly readable right-side fragment ending '...AM MASTER JAY' or similar, unresolved. A separate same-title/date external seller listing also names 'CRAIG T', not fully legible on this physical copy. Distinguish externally recoverable Craig T from physically visible names; do NOT assign Colin's hidden surname (it might be Colin Faver or another Colin), 'Master Jay' identity, unnamed acts or claimed completed appearances.

Graphic-design significance: Strong early-digital/airbrush graphics: gigantic white-edged orange/red 'DANCE ’91' letters expanding into long rhythmic concentric green-gold prisms, energetic perspective receding towards a centre vortex, abstract hoops, grids and line fragments; yellow Pure Organisation masthead and pale blue date lozenge contrast dark magenta/blue lower field. Visual represents rave culture's spatial/immersive imagination in 1991 and a distinctive graphic sequence visible beside the separately dated Dance ’91 series. Designer unknown. Front still striking and readable despite defects. Reverse losses substantially impair original typographic evidence.

Historical context: The Pure Organisation organised Dance ’91 across the UK in 1991, with archived flyers from 1 February Tonbridge, 18 May Picketts Lock, 21 June Tonbridge, 20 July Norwich and 20 December Birmingham. Firstperson artist Toby Tobias recalls attending the 1991 Picketts Lock Dance ’91 as formative and winning tickets via Colin Dale's Kiss show, providing scene-context testimony for the BRAND, not eyewitness evidence of Norwich. An institutional parallel is Northwestern University's McCormick Library holding a DIFFERENT 20 December 1991 Dance ’91 Christmas Rave flyer in its British Rave Flyers Collection, showing the tour's museum/library relevance, not ownership of Norwich print. Critically, Norwich Sports Village is nationally Grade II listed 12 Jan 2026 (NHLE 1493666) for unique Heinz Isler free-form concrete shell construction, opened 1988 and extended in 1991, illustrating how contemporary leisure architecture was repurposed for youth music. A weak historic collector spreadsheet lists Norwich 'Dance 91' as 20 July 1994, conflicting with this original's explicit '91 and exact Phatmedia chronology; retain as misattributed/uncertain source, not choose 1994.

Production note: Multicolour full-bleed/white-margined face, large black background and contrasting yellow ticket area on reverse, with fibrous-looking raised or delaminated white losses. Process and paper finish unknown.

Condition note: SEVERE CONDITION ISSUE: cover/front remains broadly complete but exhibits creases, scratching, small tears/corner wear and visible nick/loss near the central coloured lettering, plus worn/chipped top corners. Reverse is seriously damaged: extensive irregular white areas running vertically and across the bottom have lost the underlying black/gold/yellow ink and portions of printed text, revealing fibrous white paper or transfer/adhered material; parts of the DJ roster, sound-effects description, ticket agents, price and lower safety/booking conditions are permanently illegible in the supplied photos. Reverse corners and upper edge show further chipping/creases. No conservative basis to call this Good or Very Good overall. Exact adhesive residues or mechanism of damage not established.

Confidence / uncertainty: PHYSICAL VERIFIED: The Pure Organisation/Dance ’91, Norwich Sports Village, Saturday 20 July ’91, clear visual graphics, partial original printed bill, 60K/Turbosound promotional fragments, ticket network/age rule fragments and severe print-surface loss. EXTERNAL VERIFIED: exact same-date/venue organiser independently catalogued by Phatmedia/ClassicTrax, heritage-listed venue by Historic England; dealer names Trevor Fung/Carl Cox/Colin Dale/Craig T; institution holds another Dance ’91 event. PROVISIONAL: Craig T's actual specific part of the physically erased printing, Simon Bassline surname lost (high-confidence Simon Bassline Smith), unreadable Colin and ...MASTER JAY, start time, price, sound rig reality, printing cause. UNKNOWN: full lineup, individual set performance, original DJ/room count, edition, print run, authentic object market price.
