Catalogue note

Original circular flyer for World Dance at Lydd International Airport on Saturday 8 August 1992, jointly presented by the World Dance Organisation and the Bliss Organisation. The event occupied two large dance areas at the airport: a main hangar featuring live appearances from N-Joi, Shades of Rhythm, Bugg Khan & The Plastic Jam and New Class 'A' alongside Carl Cox, Fabio, Grooverider, Micky Finn, Swan-E, Kenny Ken, Randall, Dr S Gachet and Jumping Jack Frost, plus a separate Big Top led by Richie Fingers and Trevor Fung. PEZ's surreal circular artwork and the reverse's exhaustive production/logistics detail make the flyer an unusually complete document of the scale, visual ambition and organisational sophistication of British rave in 1992.

Advertised programme: Arena 1 — Main Hangar: live appearances from N-Joi; Shades of Rhythm; Bugg Khan & The Plastic Jam; New Class 'A'. Plus Carl Cox; Fabio; Grooverider; Micky Finn; Swan-E; Kenny Ken; D.J. Randall; Dr. S. Gachet; Jumpin Jack Frost; M.C. G.Q. Arena 2 — Big Top: Richie Fingers; Trevor Fung; Tony Trax; Frankie 'Shag' Bones; Al McKenzie; J.M. Easy. Printed forms are preserved exactly; securely resolved names are linked to permanent authorities.

Graphic-design significance: PEZ's circular composition is one of the clearest examples of rave-flyer art becoming a collectible visual object in its own right: disembodied hands rise from a tiled horizon, one holding the globe, beneath a surreal suspended keyboard/planet motif and red-orange sky. The unusual circular die-cut format amplifies the cosmological 'World Dance' theme and contrasts with the densely informational reverse.

Historical context: The flyer itself looks back to August 1989, stating that the World Dance Organisation had set a standard for outdoor events and that three years later it had teamed with the Bliss Organisation for this two-arena Lydd event. Independent rave-history sources place World Dance's first major field event near Godstone/East Grinstead in August 1989, drawing several thousand people. By 1996 The Independent reported that World Dance had staged more than 20 all-night UK events since 1989 and built a membership above 8,000. The Lydd airport events became a recurring World Dance setting through the 1990s; Northwestern University also preserves the later 31 October 1992 Lydd flyer.

Production note: Commercial full-colour print; exact printing process and stock not established from supplied photographs.

Condition note: Very Good+ appearance from supplied photographs. Circular edges are clean with only light handling and minor edge wear. Front colour remains vivid; a light vertical surface/handling mark is visible through the central hand area. Reverse is exceptionally information-rich and clean with modest handling evidence.

Confidence / uncertainty: Exact date, hours, venue, promoters, admission, two-arena structure, artist billing, production claims, ticket outlets and Flying Squad distribution credit are physically printed. PEZ design attribution is independently documented for this exact event by Phatmedia. The flyer's statement that the 1989 W.D.O. event 'set a standard' is preserved as promoter rhetoric; TMR does not independently elevate that phrase into an uncontested historical judgment.
