TASCHEN
International illustrated-book publisher founded by Benedikt Taschen in Cologne in 1980, known for making art, photography, design and popular-culture books at scales ranging from inexpensive series to monumental collector editions.
TASCHEN
Benedikt Taschen began with a comic-book shop in Cologne in 1980 before moving into art publishing. TASCHEN built an unusually broad illustrated list and a global distribution model, while also treating the physical scale and production of the book itself as part of the experience — most famously in projects such as Helmut Newton’s SUMO.
Why it matters
TASCHEN is central to TMR’s visual-book holdings because it demonstrates both mass accessibility and extreme book-object production within the same publishing culture.
