Biography
Person.
Kimberley Leston was a British writer, editor and magazine designer whose career moved between the visual and editorial sides of publishing during the 1980s and early 1990s. After working as a designer and art director on magazines in Britain and New York, she joined The Face in the mid-1980s under founder Nick Logan. There she developed from editorial work into writing and was promoted to assistant editor, contributing to the magazine at a point when its mixture of design, fashion, music, art and contemporary reporting was becoming a model for a new kind of British style journalism.
Leston later briefly joined the launch of Marie Claire before concentrating on freelance writing. Her work demonstrates how fluid magazine roles could be in this period: visual literacy, commissioning, editing and authorship were not always separate professions.
