Biography
Person.
Bob Marley (1945–1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and guitarist whose recordings brought reggae to an international audience. Raised in Nine Miles and later Kingston, he formed the Wailers with musicians including Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, recording first within Jamaica's developing ska and reggae industry.
The group's work with Island Records expanded that audience through albums including Catch a Fire and Burnin'. Marley's later records include Exodus and Uprising. His songs joined love and everyday experience with Rastafarian belief, resistance to oppression and African liberation, making music a vehicle for both personal expression and political address.
