Nick Knight is a British photographer and image-maker whose work has continually tested the possibilities of fashion imagery. His early study of skinhead culture, published in 1982, preceded collaborations with designers including Yohji Yamamoto, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. Editorial photography, advertising, music videos and books became overlapping parts of a practice concerned with how bodies and clothes can be transformed through an image.
In 2000 Knight launched SHOWstudio, using the internet to share creative processes and develop fashion film. The project extended his work beyond the finished photograph into movement, collaboration and the visibility of making itself. His broader output also includes botanical studies and exhibitions at major museums.
