Catalogue note

Near-threshold modern Bond archive object. The increase from the earlier 8.8 assessment reflects the inaugural Upper Deck Bond-set context and Dench’s unusually early place in Bond autograph-card history. Held below 9.0 because this /99 card is neither her first Bond autograph nor a uniquely scarce or format-defining issue.

Scarcity: SPA-JD is one of seven SP autograph cards in the 2019 set, all serial-numbered /99. Dench also appears as regular autograph A-JD in the same release.

Authentication: Reverse states the card was signed in the presence of a company representative or sent from, and certified as authentic by, Judi Dench.

Distribution: SP autograph insert in Upper Deck’s inaugural Bond programme.

Historical context: Dench debuted as the first female M in GoldenEye (1995) and played M across seven Bond films, spanning the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig eras. This card specifically represents Tomorrow Never Dies, her second Bond film.

Card genealogy: Dench’s earliest verified certified Bond autograph located is Inkworks A2 in the 1999 James Bond: The World Is Not Enough set. That product was only the second Bond trading-card release to include autographs, placing Dench near the beginning of the modern certified Bond-autograph tradition. She later signed Rittenhouse Bond cards beginning with A2 in the 2002 Die Another Day set and continued across numerous Rittenhouse releases. The 2019 SPA-JD is from Upper Deck’s inaugural Bond programme but is not a pioneering Dench autograph itself.

Uncertainties: Exact-card sold evidence remains thin. Numerical grade not assigned.

Legacy record ID: Trading Card Archive Record #002

Why this object matters

The Dench signature joins a specific M portrayal with Upper Deck's first Bond programme. Its strong autograph and collection relationships sustain the rating, without treating this later /99 card as her pioneering autograph issue.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.

Historical context

Dench debuted as the first female M in GoldenEye (1995) and played M across seven Bond films, spanning the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig eras. This card specifically represents Tomorrow Never Dies, her second Bond film.

Preservation rationale

A strong representative of modern premium Bond non-sport collecting and of Dench’s culturally significant interpretation of M, with excellent direct autograph presentation and clear franchise provenance.

Uncertainties

  • Exact-card sold evidence remains thin. Numerical grade not assigned.
