Catalogue note

A direct George Lazenby autograph as James Bond from Upper Deck’s inaugural Bond set, serial-numbered 20/25. A later premium autograph object; its manufactured scarcity does not establish pioneering status.

Scarcity: The Auto SSP checklist comprises two subjects, George Lazenby and Christoph Waltz, each serial-numbered /25.

Authentication: Reverse states the card was signed in the presence of a company representative or sent from, and certified as authentic by, George Lazenby.

Distribution: Premium autograph insert in Upper Deck’s 2019 Bond programme.

Historical context: 2019 was the 50th-anniversary year of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, but this card is not described as an explicit 50th-anniversary issue without product documentation saying so.

Card genealogy: The 2019 Upper Deck James Bond Collection was Upper Deck’s first James Bond trading-card set, so SSPA-GL is from the inaugural Upper Deck Bond programme and is one of Lazenby’s first Upper Deck Bond autograph issues. Lazenby’s first certified James Bond autograph card was Rittenhouse A06 in the 2002 James Bond 40th Anniversary set; specialist checklist history identifies A06 as the first certified autograph card of an actor who had played James Bond. The 2019 SSPA-GL is therefore a later premium descendant of an important autograph lineage, not the pioneering first.

Uncertainties: No exact transparent recent sold comparable has been verified for SSPA-GL /25. Numerical grade not assigned.

Legacy record ID: Trading Card Archive Record #001

Why this object matters

The direct Lazenby autograph and early Upper Deck Bond context support outstanding significance. This is not his first certified Bond autograph; /25 production and serial 20/25 do not independently confer Gold.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.

Historical context

2019 was the 50th-anniversary year of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, but this card is not described as an explicit 50th-anniversary issue without product documentation saying so.

Preservation rationale

A very low-run, officially licensed hard autograph of the actor whose sole Bond performance is unique within the franchise, with additional significance as a top-tier card from Upper Deck’s inaugural Bond set.

Uncertainties

  • No exact transparent recent sold comparable has been verified for SSPA-GL /25. Numerical grade not assigned.
Score and assessment method
