Catalogue note
August 1981 issue of The Face, No. 16, with Echo & the Bunnymen on the cover and an Ian McCulloch interview. Cover lines also document Spandau Ballet through a Gary Kemp profile, Funkapolitan and ABC, fashion, Coventry, Polaroids, The Clash, Quentin Crisp and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The rear cover carries an HMV 'Beware of the Dog' record-store advertisement. The issue captures British post-punk and New Pop at a particularly active moment in 1981.
Why this object matters
The McCulloch issue joins early ABC/Funkapolitan, Coventry reporting and Polaroid imagery in the original 1981 editorial setting. It remains an outstanding contextual document, with no need to infer first appearances from early coverage.
Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
