The Face
British music, fashion and style magazine founded by Nick Logan in 1980, whose original 1980–2004 run became a defining visual record of successive youth cultures before the title was relaunched in 2019.
The Face
The Face combined music, fashion, photography and graphic design in a format that helped establish the modern style magazine. Its original run gave unusual creative freedom to designers, photographers and stylists, including Neville Brody, Corinne Day and many others, and documented shifts from post-punk and New Romantic culture through club, rave, Britpop and beyond. The publication closed in 2004 and returned in 2019.
Why it matters
For TMR, The Face is a foundational reference point for British visual culture: a publication in which magazine design, fashion photography, music and youth identity repeatedly changed one another.
