Edition details
2013 limited-edition 7-inch box set, announced limitation 1,000 copies. Each of the 11 tracks from The xx's debut album is issued on its own 7-inch record with individual artwork; contemporary release descriptions state the band's X logo is etched on every B-side. Black presentation box with raised/die-cut X motif; original white shipping mailer retained.
Condition note
Original outer production label reads optimal media GmbH / YT104 / VINYL BOX THE XX - XX BOXSET BLACK / 1 Stück / 11.11.2013. Separate product code XXBXXXXXX0039XX is retained as an internal product/warehouse code only; it is not interpreted as a serial number.
Attribution / research note
The set reissues the recordings from xx. Authoritative recording metadata credits Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Jamie Smith and Baria Qureshi across the original album sessions; Jamie Smith also produced/mixed material with Rodaidh McDonald. The 2013 public identity of The xx was the trio of Madley Croft, Sim and Smith.
Why this object matters
The eleven-single design and preserved production mailer give this re-presentation of the debut clear material and design interest. Retain the provisional score until internal record/sleeve completeness can be established without unnecessary disturbance; the 1,000-copy run is not itself a Gold argument.
Evidence limits: All eleven records and their individual sleeves have not been visually verified; the box and mailer do not establish internal completeness.
