Catalogue note

Original double-sided flyer for D.E.S.T.I.N.Y — The Real Deal: Unity of the Rave Nation, held at The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes on Bank Holiday Friday 27 August 1993, 9pm–7am. The reverse announces “20 of the UK’s finest deck destroyers” across two arenas, including Ellis D, Grooverider, Rat Pack, Easygroove, Jumping Jack Frost, DJ Rap, Fabio, Carl Cox, Stu Allen, Top Buzz, Simon Bassline Smith, Pilgrim, Ratty, DJ SS and Doc Scott. At 2am Andy C was advertised live performing “Long Dark Tunnel”, with Elevation performing “Elevate EP”. The flyer combines a major early-Sanctuary hardcore bill with unusually explicit scene rhetoric around “true hardcore”, rave unity, value, production standards and opposition to perceived commercial dilution.

Advertised programme: Arena One: Ellis D, Grooverider, The Rat Pack, Easygroove, Jumping Jack Frost, DJ Rap, Fabio, Carl Cox, Stu Allen, Top Buzz. Arena Two: Simon Bassline Smith, Pilgrim, Ratty, DJ SS, Keith Suckling, Donovan, Badboy Smith, Doc Scott, Easy D + MC Rush, Randell, Dave Hardcore Graham. Live on stage at 2am: Andy C performing “Long Dark Tunnel”; Elevation performing “Elevate EP”.

Graphic-design significance: Front uses a vivid magenta photographic collage of dancers, MCs/crowds and a costumed/robotic stage figure; reverse uses dense black programme blocks and manifesto-like promotional text.

Historical context: The physical flyer dates the event to Friday 27 August 1993 at The Sanctuary, North Denbigh Leisure Centre, Milton Keynes. Specialist flyer indexing independently lists Destiny at The Sanctuary on 27/08/1993 and names Carl Cox, Fabio, Grooverider and Easygroove. The reverse positions Destiny as an established South-East rave promoter and frames the event as a response to what it characterises as commercial dilution of hardcore culture. These statements are preserved as the promoter’s own contemporary rhetoric, not adopted as objective historical judgments.

Condition note: Historic horizontal folding/creasing is prominent, with additional handling creases, edge and corner wear, small edge tears/abrasions and surface wear. Colour remains strong and the extensive text is substantially legible. No claim is made about unseen material beyond the photographed two-sided flyer.

Through the flyers

Explore the club-culture timeline to follow advertised dates, places and billed performers across the held flyers.

Event details are drawn from the held object and the qualified catalogue research above. A printed bill establishes an advertised booking, not confirmation that a performer appeared.

Why this object matters

Destiny's extended self-definition, audience imagery and named live-production links give the sheet exceptional scene testimony beyond routine logistics. Retain threshold Gold, below Elevation's sharper economic critique and Advance Party's political agency. Live billing remains an advertised intention rather than proof of appearance.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
