Catalogue note

Original double-sided Pyramid Promotions flyer for The Innersense DJ Awards 1995 presents “The Super Heroes,” held at Lazerdrome, 267 Rye Lane, London SE15 on 13 April 1995, 10pm–7am. The front creates a comic-book cityscape around giant speakers and superhero imagery. The reverse turns the programme into a fictional battle: Jumpin’ Jack Frost as Superman, Grooverider as The Silver Surfer, Mickey Finn as Ice Man, Brockie as The Hulk, Randall as Judge Dread, Kenny Ken as Captain America, Hype as Batman and Dr S Gachet as Thor, with MCs styled as the Fantastic Four. A separate Forbidden Zone / Space Satellite Kool bill, Feline Dance Company performance, production specifications, club rules, ticket network and explicit “Flyer by Damon” credit make this an unusually information-rich record of mid-1990s London rave promotion.

Advertised programme: The Battle Drome: Jumpin’ Jack Frost — Superman; Grooverider — The Silver Surfer; Mickey Finn — Ice Man; Brockie — The Hulk; Randall — Judge Dread; Kenny Ken — Captain America; Hype — Batman; Dr S Gachet — Thor. The Fantastic Four: MC GQ — Mr Fantastic; MC Dett — The Thing; MC Five-O — The Human Torch; MC Navigator — Mr Invisible. Forbidden Zone / Space Satellite Kool — The Stormtroopers: Probe; Ron; Tonic; Foodloose; SS; Swift; Younghead. The Feline Dance Company presents Wonder Woman & Catwoman.

Graphic-design significance: Highly distinctive superhero-themed collage combining Marvel/DC-derived character imagery, giant loudspeakers, Lazerdrome branding and DJ-to-superhero pairings. The reverse continues the concept typographically, turning the bill into the Battle Drome, Fantastic Four and Stormtroopers. The physical flyer explicitly credits “FLYER BY - DAMON”.

Historical context: The flyer frames the event as the Innersense DJ Awards 1995 and says this was the third successive year the promoter had been voted No. 1 Best Club, while presenting the night as a contest among leading DJs. It also explicitly advertises Space Satellite Kool on 94.5 FM as connected to the Forbidden Zone programme. These are contemporary promoter claims preserved as such rather than adopted as independently verified rankings.

Condition note: Strong colour and excellent overall legibility. Visible handling includes light edge and corner wear, small surface scuffs/marks, minor local creasing and slight edge waviness. No major tears or material loss are apparent in the supplied photographs. Assessment is limited to the two photographed sides.

Confidence / uncertainty: “Flyer by Damon” is physically verified, but Damon’s full identity is unresolved and no permanent People authority is proposed. Comic-character spellings are preserved as printed, including “Judge Dread” and “Ice Man”. Innersense is retained in the event/promoter description; no separate organisation authority is proposed without stronger identity resolution.

Why this object matters

The printed mapping of DJs to comic-book identities makes this an unusually coherent original account of scene status and popular imagery. Retain Gold for that cross-collection design and awards framing, below the more materially integrated Soundclash belt and whole competition programme. Damon remains a printed credit with unresolved fuller identity.

Evidence limits: “Flyer by Damon” is physically verified, but Damon’s full identity is unresolved and no permanent People authority is proposed. Comic-character spellings are preserved as printed, including “Judge Dread” and “Ice Man”. Innersense is retained in the event/promoter description; no separate organisation authority is proposed without stronger identity resolution.
