Catalogue note
Original 1996 fold-out programme for One Nation — Clash of the Titans at The Island Music Arena, 300–310 High Road, Ilford, on Saturday 26 October 1996. Presented by Diamond Promotions, the event runs 10pm–7am and is described as One Nation’s first at the venue. Arena 1, “Gifts From The Gods”, bills drum & bass selectors Micky Finn, Hype, Grooverider, Andy C, Brockie, Randall, Darren Jay, Kenny Ken and Marvellous Cain, with MCs GQ, Stevie Hyper D, Dett and Skibadee. Arena 2, “Temple of Love”, continues the “House Is A Feeling” programme. The fold-out combines Design Asylum’s monumental turntable/temple imagery with extensive production, ticket and distribution information.
Advertised programme: Arena 1 — “Gifts From The Gods”, Drum & Bass Selectors: Micky Finn; Hype; Grooverider; Andy C; Brockie; Randall; Darren Jay; Kenny Ken; Marvellous Cain. MCs: GQ; Stevie Hyper D; Dett; Skibadee. Arena 2 — “Temple of Love”, House Is A Feeling: Dean Savonne; Danielle Montana; Laurence Bagnall; Dave Gray; MC D.T.
Graphic-design significance: Physically credited to Design Asylum Ltd © MCMXCVI. The imagery is a dense digital/3D photomontage of monumental columns, a temple/arena structure and an enormous turntable elevated like a sacred object, directly visualising the “Clash of the Titans” and “Gifts From The Gods” themes. The metallic One Nation identity and saturated ochre/cyan palette place it firmly within the digitally composited mid-1990s drum & bass flyer language, and it forms a clear visual sequence with the Design Asylum One Nation Midsummer Nights Dream flyer already submitted in this workflow.
Historical context: The reverse states that, following the success of One Nation’s last event “The Future”, Clash of the Titans would be staged at “one of London’s most prestigious and talked about venues: The Island Music Arena, Ilford” and explicitly calls this the promoter’s first event there. It also predicts a sell-out and gives a ticket-release date of Monday 16 September. The programme therefore captures both venue expansion and the consolidation of a recognisable 1996 drum & bass canon around Micky Finn, Hype, Grooverider, Andy C, Brockie, Randall, Darren Jay and Kenny Ken.
Production note: Full-colour digitally composited/photomontage-style printing on paper stock; exact printing process and paper specification not established.
Condition note: Very Good appearance, ungraded. Original central horizontal fold is integral to the fold-out construction. Light edge/corner handling, minor rubbing and local crease wear are visible, with small edge abrasions; colours remain strong and all major programme/ticket information is legible. No major tears or paper loss evident.
Confidence / uncertainty: Date, venue, hours, ticket-release date, principal line-up, programme headings and Design Asylum credit are physically verified. “Marvellous Cain” is preserved as printed and linked at high confidence to TMR’s existing Marvellous Caine authority. “Hype” is linked to DJ Hype; “Andy C” to the DJ authority, not Andy Capper. The flyer’s claims that the Island Music Arena was prestigious/talked-about and that the event would sell out are promoter statements, not independently verified outcomes. Printed billing documents advertised appearances, not proof that every performer appeared.
