Catalogue note

Original double-sided flyer for Spirit 2 — The Next Generation at Hatfield Forum, Hertfordshire, on Friday 17 January 1992. The event offered a main arena led by Ellis Dee, a Helter Skelter Crew live P.A., a separate chill-out bill and a heavily promoted technical environment of sound, lasers, strobes, Roboscans and split-level staging. Its science-fiction visual identity and unusually detailed reverse make the flyer strong primary evidence for the way early-1990s rave culture was being translated into organised, ticketed indoor events beyond London.

Advertised programme: Main arena: Ellis Dee; Boneshakers; D.J. Fingers; Rubberman; Smashup; K.C. Live P.A.: The Helter Skelter Crew (The Fun House) with unreleased tracks; professional dancers; MC Screechie D. Chill out: Woodstock; Justice; The Mailman; D.J. Camel; Danny C; M.D. Printed forms preserved exactly; only securely resolved performers are linked as permanent People authorities.

Graphic-design significance: The front uses a dark cinematic field, a glowing green/yellow egg-like form and a tiny human figure above a reflected or water-like surface, paired with a distinctive condensed futuristic SPIRIT 2 logotype. The reverse shifts to dense white typographic information with small spacecraft illustrations, creating a coherent science-fiction 'next generation' identity across image and event copy.

Historical context: The physical copy states that the Spirit Crew were returning after three months away, indicating an earlier phase of activity without identifying a specific prior event. Surviving specialist records document Spirit continuing to promote in 1992: a 'Brainbenders' event at the Forum, Hatfield, on 10 April appears in a specialist Randall set archive, and Phatmedia documents a Spirit event at the Dacorum Pavilion, Hemel Hempstead, on 24 July 1992. These later records support Spirit as a continuing regional rave promoter rather than a one-off event name.

Production note: Not established from supplied photographs.

Condition note: Very Good appearance from supplied photographs. Front black field shows scattered fine scratches, scuffs and light handling marks, with modest edge/corner wear. Reverse remains clean and highly legible with similar light surface/edge wear. No major tear, paper loss or heavy staining is visible.

Confidence / uncertainty: Exact date, hours, venue address, admission, artist billing and production claims are physically printed. The promoter identity 'Spirit / Spirit Crew' is printed on the flyer and supported by later specialist Spirit event records. No artist/designer credit is visible on this object. The wording 'purpose built theatre complex totalling 6000 sq. ft.' is preserved as the promoter's own description, not independently verified.
