Catalogue note

UK physical VICE Volume 12 Number 9, corresponding to VICE’s September 2014 global True Crime Issue. Its startling red cover reproduces a painting by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry depicting a grotesque act of self-disembowelment/cannibalistic violence; the physical contents note says the painting concerns murder and grave robbery. Inside, the issue approaches crime through documentary photography, reporting, memoir and historical material, including Bruce Gilden’s portraits from Camden, New Jersey, the West Mesa murders, the Amityville Horror, prison escapes and other crime-related subjects. The unusual Saint-Exupéry artwork makes this one of the more distinctive later VICE covers in the TMR sequence.
