Sean Phillips

Sean Phillips is a British comics artist whose career has moved from the collaborative energy of 2000 AD into some of the most distinctive crime comics of the modern American market. His early British work included Judge Dredd and the co-creation of Armitage and Devlin Waugh, alongside contributions to titles such as Hellblazer and The Invisibles.

Phillips later became particularly closely associated with writer Ed Brubaker, developing a body of noir and crime work in which economical drawing, heavy shadow and sharply observed acting give pulp conventions unusual emotional weight. Across series including Sleeper and Criminal, his storytelling has helped define a contemporary visual language for adult crime comics.
