Catalogue note

Original Fleetway Editions Judge Dredd: The Megazine Vol. 2 #26, dated 17–30 April 1993. Its principal significance is John Smith and Sean Phillips’s nine-page “Brief Encounter”, a Dredd/Devlin Waugh crossover identified by specialist sources as the first direct meeting between the two characters. The same issue also concludes John Wagner and Peter Doherty’s five-part “Mechanismo Returns”, Garth Ennis and Nick Percival’s “Sleeze ’n’ Ryder”, and Robbie Morrison and Siku’s two-part Hershey story “Asylum”. Sean Phillips’s painted cover explicitly stages Dredd and Waugh together under the line “Mad About the Boy!”.

Edition: Original UK fortnightly issue

Why this object matters

The original Dredd/Devlin Waugh encounter and paired cover provide outstanding evidence of the characters' relationship and the anthology's queer-comics context. It is a valuable companion to the foundational Waugh debut, but the retained case for this meeting does not independently demonstrate a Gold-level publication milestone.

Evidence limits: No new physical collation or independent reception study was undertaken.
