Catalogue note

i-D No. 291, September 2008, The To Die For Issue, featuring Jourdan Dunn photographed by Emma Summerton under fashion director Edward Enninful. This is Dunn's first i-D cover: she later told i-D that she had its cover line, “You owe it to yourself. Set the world on fire,” tattooed on her arm. The issue appeared in Dunn's breakthrough 2008, when she became the first Black model in more than a decade to walk Prada, appeared in Vogue Italia's landmark Black Issue and was named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. The rear preserves a full-page Prada advertisement.

Why this object matters

Dunn’s first i-D cover has documented personal and representation-history significance in her 2008 breakthrough. The Summerton/Enninful original retains Gold at 9.2, with other milestones contextualised rather than treated as achievements caused by this issue.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.

Score and assessment method

Archive Importance: 9.2 / 10 · Gold Star.

This is a curatorial judgement, not a measurement accurate to one tenth or a market valuation. Read the explanation and its evidence limits together.
