Biography
Person.
Terry Jones is a British art director and magazine maker who founded i-D with Tricia Jones in 1980. After working as art director of British Vogue, he developed a publication that brought street style, individual identity and emerging creative communities into fashion publishing. The magazine began in their home and grew through a network of photographers, stylists, writers and designers.
Jones’s approach to the page was physical and experimental: cutting, rearranging and juxtaposing images and type could be part of the editorial argument. He also treated the magazine as a place where young contributors could learn through responsibility, helping develop talents including Edward Enninful, Caryn Franklin and Dylan Jones. His importance lies in both the look of i-D and the collaborative publishing culture that made it possible.
