i-D
British fashion and youth-culture magazine founded in London in 1980 by Terry and Tricia Jones, beginning as a hand-made street-style publication before becoming an internationally influential fashion title.
i-D
Terry Jones launched i-D after leaving British Vogue, with Tricia Jones central to the magazine’s development and long-term operation. The earliest issues were produced as an independent, street-distributed publication documenting fashion and identity outside conventional fashion-media structures. Its sideways winking-face logo became one of magazine publishing’s most recognisable graphic devices.
Why it matters
i-D is central to TMR’s study of British youth culture, fashion photography and magazine design because it joined street observation, graphic experimentation and emerging creative talent in a form that influenced later style publishing worldwide.
