Catalogue note

Original Fleetway Editions Judge Dredd: The Megazine Vol. 2 #34, dated 7–20 August 1993. Its principal archival significance is the nine-page final episode of Alan Grant and Kevin Walker’s eight-part “Childhood’s End”, in which Psi Judge Anderson resigns from the Mega-City One Judges and leaves for deep space. The Kevin Walker cover deliberately frames the issue as “The End for Anderson?”. It also begins “Slick Dickens: Dressed to Kill”, the character’s first Megazine story after his earlier 2000 AD appearance, and includes the first half of Heavy Metal Dredd’s “Monkey Beat”.

Writer: John Wagner; Si Spencer; John Smith; Alan Grant

Artist: Xuasus; John Richardson; John Hicklenton; Keith Page; Kevin Walker

Cover: Kevin Walker

Edition: Original UK fortnightly issue

Why this object matters

The Childhood’s End finale and Walker cover record a consequential Anderson narrative turning point in original form. That supports outstanding 8.5 status, but a character’s departure within an ongoing fiction does not by itself warrant near-Gold importance.

Evidence limits: Selected interior pages are photographed, but no full page-by-page collation has been performed. No separate free gift is advertised on the supplied cover and no issue-specific premium was located in the sources checked; no missing premium is presently identified.
