Catalogue note

Original circular double-sided flyer for Jungle Fever's Christmas Cracker at Stevenage Ice Bowl on 22 December 1995, 9pm–7am. One face is almost entirely graphic: a metallic-gold lion emblem surrounded by holly and the messages “Happy Christmas” and “Jungle Fever”. The programme face announces an Iceland contingent alongside Hype & Randall, DJ S.S & Andy C, Brockie, Ron & SL, Grooverider, Tonic & Swift and others, with multiple MCs. The central copy presents the event as Jungle Fever's first celebration outside London and frames the night as an international Christmas gathering. Extensive ticket/coach information and an advertisement for a forthcoming Jungle Fever record shop at Lea Bridge Road make the object useful evidence of the promoter's organisational and commercial infrastructure.

Advertised programme: Iceland; Hype & Randall; DJ S.S & Andy C; Brockie; Ron & SL; Grooverider; Tonic & Swift; Devious D; Easy D & Flirt; Rodney T; Funky Ash; Younghead; Ash; Trace; MCs include Unity, Moose, Rema-Dee, Swing, Det, Jammy B, GQ, Gee, Rhythm, Fly, MC MC and others as printed

Graphic-design significance: Unusual circular die-cut Christmas design with metallic-gold lion device and holly/berry motif. The physical shape and seasonal visual language make the promotional object itself unusually distinctive within rave-flyer material culture.

Historical context: UKF's historical account dates the launch of Jungle Fever to August 1993 through a Kool FM/Ibiza Records collaboration and describes its emphasis on explicitly presenting jungle, professional event organisation and expansion beyond London. The Guardian later specifically noted that the Jungle Fever team exported the London sound to Stevenage Ice Bowl among other locations. This December 1995 Christmas flyer is therefore part of a documented outward expansion of a key jungle-event brand. The flyer itself states that this would be the first time Jungle Fever celebrated Christmas away from London and announces an Iceland contingent alongside the London programme.

Condition note: Circular flyer remains substantially intact with strong colour and metallic-gold effect. Visible handling wear includes edge and surface rubbing, creasing/scuffing and local abrasions, with heavier wear around portions of the circumference. Assessment is limited to the two photographed sides.

Event details are drawn from the held object and the qualified catalogue research above. A printed bill establishes an advertised booking, not confirmation that a performer appeared.

Why this object matters

The circular Christmas form and Iceland/London framing make this an outstanding regional/transnational jungle-promotion object. Both physical construction and programme matter, but the retained evidence does not establish the more integrated competition mechanism of the belt-shaped Soundclash sheet or an independently consequential event.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
