Catalogue note
Large, richly produced United Dance fold-out programme for the 23 August 1996 “Flight of Fantasy” August Bank Holiday event at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre. Beyond the striking fantasy/CG front artwork, the object documents three programmed zones spanning happy hardcore and jungle/drum & bass, a national ticket and coach distribution network, contemporary United Dance merchandise, and promotional claims around the organisation’s live-event and recording activity. Specialist surviving tape-pack documentation confirms the event and preserves recordings by the same principal DJs.
Advertised programme: Zone One: Hixxy, Vinylgroover, Ellis Dee, Randall, Dougal, Vibes, Hype, Darren Jay. Zone Two: Scott Brown, Clarkee, Force & Styles, Slipmatt, Sy, Brisk. Zone Three: Grooverider, Kenny Ken.
Historical context: By August 1996 United Dance was staging large multi-zone events at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre. The programme divides the night into three zones, bringing together figures associated with happy hardcore alongside jungle/drum & bass DJs. Specialist tape-pack archives document the same 23 August 1996 event as an eight-tape live set featuring Vinylgroover/Hixxy, Ellis Dee/Randall, Dougal/Vibes, Hype/Darren Jay, Scott Brown/Clarkee, Slipmatt/Force & Styles, Sy/Brisk and Grooverider/Kenny Ken. A specialist dealer also records the commercial tape pack as a 1996 live recording from Stevenage and describes a 1,000-copy edition; that print-run claim applies to the tape pack, not this paper programme, and is not used as a flyer rarity claim.
Condition note: Original folds are present, including the principal vertical centre fold and panel folds. Minor edge and corner wear, light handling marks and a small amount of surface/crease wear are visible. Colour and printed detail remain strong; no major loss apparent in the supplied photographs.
Through the flyers
Explore the club-culture timeline to follow advertised dates, places and billed performers across the held flyers.
Event details are drawn from the held object and the qualified catalogue research above. A printed bill establishes an advertised booking, not confirmation that a performer appeared.
Why this object matters
The complete three-zone Flight of Fantasy programme preserves merchandise, distribution and a connection to recorded sets. It is outstanding mature United Dance evidence, but equivalent documentary richness across the held sequence limits an individual exceptional claim. Compare with the more focused organisational transitions and Soundclash mechanism.
Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
