Catalogue note

Original double-sided flyer for First Promotions' Liberty Christmas Cracker at Bowes Lyon Centre, Stevenage, on Friday 13 December 1991 at high-confidence attribution. The event assembled Grooverider, Swan-E, Micky Finn, DJ Seduction, DJ Rap and Randall alongside a large supporting bill, with an unusually elaborate production specification spanning Martin F2 sound, lasers, scratch video, mirrored effects and a separate chill-out environment. The saturated cosmic artwork and the venue's long youth-music history make the flyer a strong primary record of regional rave culture at the moment breakbeat hardcore was consolidating into the networks that would soon feed jungle.

Advertised programme: Groove Rider; Swan-E; Micky Finn; Seduction; Matthew B; Cesco; DJ Rap; MC Ron-Jon; Randal. Downstairs: Andy Hurst; Batch; Munchie; Nick Greed; Wizzards of Oz. Printed spellings are preserved; TMR links 'Groove Rider' to Grooverider, 'Seduction' to DJ Seduction and 'Randal' to Randall at high confidence.

Graphic-design significance: The front is a dense hand-rendered cosmic composition built around a central eye-like spacecraft/portal form, bubble planets, flames, electrical clouds and the stylised Liberty identity. Its saturated airbrushed/graffiti-inflected language contrasts with the reverse's metallic, techno-futurist typography and equipment-heavy programme copy, giving the object unusually rich visual evidence of early-1990s rave futurism.

Historical context: The Liberty series is independently documented at Bowes Lyon Centre from at least September 1991 into 1992. Phatmedia records Liberty there on 20 September 1991 under 1st Promotions (GB); Northwestern University's British Rave Flyers Collection holds a First Promotions 'Liberty on Valentines Day' flyer for Bowes Lyon on 14 February 1992; Ravescene listings place Liberty there again on 20 March 1992. This Christmas Cracker fits securely within that series. Bowes Lyon Centre itself had a long music history and was described by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as once the largest youth centre in Europe, with decades of live-music activity.

Production note: Not established from supplied photographs.

Condition note: Very Good appearance from supplied photographs. Front shows light surface scuffs/scratches and modest edge/corner wear but remains bright and strongly coloured. Reverse is clean and highly legible with minor handling, edge wear and slight corner curvature. No major tear, heavy staining or significant paper loss is visible.

Confidence / uncertainty: The physical flyer prints Friday 13 December, 9pm–6am, Bowes Lyon Centre, St. Georges Way, Stevenage, First Promotions (GB), full billing, £14 admission and event-production details. The 1991 year is a high-confidence contextual attribution, not printed on the reverse. The handwritten front marks 'Nuff Said!' and 'boogie' are preserved without claiming a resolved artist identity.
