Catalogue note

Original World Dance flyer for Good Friday, 9 April 1993, at The Sanctuary Music Arena in Milton Keynes. The promoter presents the night as World Dance's first visit north of London, bringing a main arena of Micky Finn, Ratty, Grooverider, Swan-E, Simon 'Bassline' Smith, LTJ Bukem, Doc Scott, Tayla and Fat Controller, plus Kenny Ken and regional selectors in a second room. PEZ's science-fiction artwork, the venue's national rave significance and the line-up's concentration of artists central to the hardcore-to-jungle transition make the object a particularly strong document of British rave becoming both geographically national and increasingly venue-based.

Advertised programme: Main Arena: Micky Finn; Ratty; Grooverider; Swan-E; Simon 'Bassline' Smith; LTJ Bukem; Doc Scott; Tayla; Fat Controller; MC GQ. Arena 2: Stacey Tough; Kenny Ken; Richie Fingers; Tommy Cockles; Zac Sams; DJ Future. Printed forms are preserved exactly; securely resolved names are linked to permanent authorities.

Graphic-design significance: PEZ's front adapts the circular World Dance visual language into a more austere composition: a red sky and blue lunar/alien landscape, two hands emerging from cracked ground, floating geometric frames and a planet overhead, all contained within a green-and-yellow ring. The imagery creates a science-fiction portal effect while the reverse operates as an intensely practical map of a national rave network through artist billing, venue logistics and dozens of ticket outlets.

Historical context: The Sanctuary had opened to rave use in late 1991 and became one of Britain's defining legal all-night dance venues. This April 1993 event is documented by Phatmedia, contemporary Ravescene listings and Northwestern University's British Rave Flyers Collection. The flyer says World Dance was making its first visit north of London and refers to the crowd and production scale of its previous Lydd International Airport event, showing the promoter extending its airport/field-rave identity into increasingly formalised indoor rave infrastructure.

Production note: Commercial full-colour print; exact printing process and stock not established from supplied photographs.

Condition note: Very Good+ appearance from supplied photographs. Front remains vivid with light surface scuffs/handling and modest edge/corner wear; lower edge shows a small amount of rubbing. Reverse is highly legible and clean with light handling and edge wear. No major tear, heavy staining or significant paper loss is visible.

Confidence / uncertainty: Exact event date, hours, venue, line-up, ticket prices, promoter copy, production specification and outlet network are physically printed. PEZ's authorship is independently documented by Phatmedia. The flyer's statement that more than 6,000 people attended the preceding Lydd event is preserved as promoter rhetoric and has not been independently verified.
