23–30 May 1992 (two advertised Saturday events) · ★ Gold Star object

Original double-sided Telepathy — Thunderdome poster for Sting Productions' two 10pm–6am rave events on Saturdays 23 and 30 May 1992 at The Roller Express, Lea Valley Trading Estate, Edmonton, London N18. Front carries an arresting PEZ-attributed blue planetary/visionary design of a glowing-eyed figure with an eye in its palm, lightning and orange title. Reverse prints two date-associated bills featuring Devious D, Swann-E, Kenny Ken, Grooverider, DJ Ron, Ratpack, Randall, Jumping Jack Frost and Ellis Dee, plus live PAs Manix and Shut Up & Dance, shared MCs, a £20 individual / £36 double-night ticket offer, expansive technological promises, access map, record-shop outlets and safety notice. Northwestern University independently holds a separately catalogued same-event Thunderdome object in its British Rave Flyers Collection (MS187), supporting major institutional documentary interest without proving identical print variant.

Catalogue note

Original double-sided Telepathy — Thunderdome poster for Sting Productions' two 10pm–6am rave events on Saturdays 23 and 30 May 1992 at The Roller Express, Lea Valley Trading Estate, Edmonton, London N18. Front carries an arresting PEZ-attributed blue planetary/visionary design of a glowing-eyed figure with an eye in its palm, lightning and orange title. Reverse prints two date-associated bills featuring Devious D, Swann-E, Kenny Ken, Grooverider, DJ Ron, Ratpack, Randall, Jumping Jack Frost and Ellis Dee, plus live PAs Manix and Shut Up & Dance, shared MCs, a £20 individual / £36 double-night ticket offer, expansive technological promises, access map, record-shop outlets and safety notice. Northwestern University independently holds a separately catalogued same-event Thunderdome object in its British Rave Flyers Collection (MS187), supporting major institutional documentary interest without proving identical print variant.

Advertised programme: Two dates printed side by side. 23 May / left 'Making It Happen': DEViOUS; D SWANNE; KENI KEN; GROOVERIDER; DJ RON; RATPACK; PA MANIX. 30 May / right 'Taking You There': EASY B; LT. STITCH; RANDALL; JACK FROST; ELLIS D; RATPACK; PA SHUT UP & DANCE. Shared horizontal MC billing: FLIRT; JUNIOR DAN; STING; MC FIVE O. Date-to-panel assignments follow page layout; the MC strip crosses both bills so individual MC dates cannot be securely specified. All artists are advertised, not confirmed attendees.

Graphic-design significance: A highly accomplished early PEZ rave-scene cosmic image: luminous blue-purple humanoid, eyes glowing white, a disembodied eye set into its raised palm and discharge of lightning toward the horizon; comet and planetary orbs in an alien night sky; huge orange-red THUNDER DOME masthead. Beneath the image is a small stylised printed artist mark with 1992. The reverse flips to a typographic programme combining industrial-techno stencil-like red/yellow lettering, repeated cartoon eye-in-hand symbols, full two-date spread, poster-as-ticket-office agent grid and map. It exemplifies surreal science-fiction visual language coupled with the practical infrastructure of commercial early-1990s rave.

Historical context: Sting Productions promoted Telepathy/Thunderdome at The Roller Express on 23 and 30 May 1992; the dates and combination are independently preserved as a discrete item in Northwestern University's British Rave Flyers Collection MS187 (Oversize box 1, folder 5, item 5). The reverse positions Roller Express as an 80,000 sq ft all-night arena and advertises an '80K Martin F2' system, computer-generated rainbow lasers, advanced lighting, video screens, multi-level dance platforms, dancers, jugglers, fire-eaters, UV art, gyroscopes and arcade games. These are period promoters' advertised claims, not independently proven equipment or measurements. Distinct visiting billings and PAs are presented for the two successive Saturdays. The commercial price is £20 per night or £36 for both, booking charges additional. London's Museum describes Roller Express and the venue's spectacularly scaled rave claims through its separately held 1992 Genesis flyer, providing venue and scene context rather than confirming this specific event's attractions. Original broadcast/radio contact details, first aid/security policy, cartographic directions and national record-shop ticket distribution preserve networks behind the rave economy.

Production note: Colour lithographic-style printed paper; exact printing technique, substrate, weight and printer unverified.

Condition note: Two prominent full-width horizontal original folding lines cross image, title and reverse, with white fold stress and handling wear. A longitudinal fold is also visible, with small crease lines, scratches/scuffs especially upper and outer edges, mild corner wear and localized smudging/abrasion towards lower right of dark illustrated field. The paper remains a single apparently intact sheet; the printed image and densely typeset programme are substantially legible. No in-hand measurement, light-table inspection or verified historic repairs.

Confidence / uncertainty: Physically printed dates Sat 23 May / Sat 30 May, both 10pm–6am; year 1992 established by exact-event Northwestern institutional finding aid and 1992 printed image mark. The artwork carries a printed stylised '92' signature, not a hand-signed autograph. Original spells D SWANNE, KENI KEN, JACK FROST, ELLIS D, and those are transcribed while established people authorities use Swann-E, Kenny Ken, Jumping Jack Frost, Ellis Dee. Distinguish 'STING' in shared MC strip from rock musician Sting; do NOT merge unrelated person authority. The two DJ/PA sets map to dates by left-right layout only; cross-panel MC strip is not securely allocated to single nights. Ratpack and Shut Up & Dance are billed acts not invented individual person profiles. No quantities or technology claims treated as established results. Multiple historical Telepathy/Thunderdome graphic variants exist in specialist archives; exact print run/variant designation unresolved.
