Labrynth / 2000 AD Productions — Desire ’92 (15 August 1992)

Tasco Warehouse, Plumstead · advertised final Labrynth/2000AD joint event · signed-in-print PEZ artwork · 9pm–8am · £10 members / £15 non-members

Saturday 15 August 1992 · 9pm–8am · ★ Gold Star object

Original two-sided Labrynth / 2000 AD Productions Desire ’92 rave flyer for Saturday 15 August 1992 at the Tasco Warehouse, Plumstead, 9pm–8am. PEZ's independently credited cosmic artwork bears a printed 1992 signature; its reverse declares this was to be the FINAL joint event staged by the two promoter crews, with free commemorative merchandise. The Main Arena names nine DJs including original Desire residents, while the four-name Love Lounge explicitly looks back to the summer of 1988–89. Original £10 member/£15 nonmember admission, elaborate sound/visual promises and venue map make it a rich primary cultural record. A related 1992 Desire handbill is separately accessioned at London Museum, but its exact visual variant is unverified.

Event
Desire ’92, Saturday 15 August — billed as the FINAL jointly staged event by the Labrynth and 2000 AD crews.
Promoter
Labrynth / 2000 AD Productions (both physically named). 2000 AD Productions primary existing archive authority; new Labrynth authority proposed to reflect its distinct co-promotion. 'Last event together' is a printed prospective announcement, not a historically verified cessation of every later collaboration.
Venue
The Tasco Warehouse
Location
138–140 Nathan Way, Plumstead, London SE28, UK, as printed; detailed route map on back. Original event information line 081-365 0246.
Advertised hours
9pm–8am (an eleven-hour overnight Saturday-to-Sunday event), exactly printed.
Original admission / price
Original event tickets £10 members; £15 non-members. Do not confuse 1992 event price with the market value of the paper flyer.
Designer
PEZ (Steven Perry), exact 15 August 1992 flyer designer independently identified by Phatmedia; original illustrated face bears stylised printed PEZ © ’92 signature/mark. Responsibility for typesetting/printing of text reverse not individually verified.
Format
Original-period double-sided portrait single-sheet promotional flyer; full-colour PEZ psychedelic cosmic portrait face and brown/sepia-on-cream event-details reverse with map.
Dimensions
Not owner-measured. The museum's 1992 Desire item is 210 x 297mm, but does not establish dimensions or same issue identity of this copy.
Orientation
Portrait illustration front; portrait detailed event-information reverse.
Original / reproduction
Photographically consistent with an original 1992 double-sided event-specific commercial flyer and matching original period design/wording catalogued by Phatmedia. Forensic printing authentication, first impression and surviving copy count unknown; later licensed PEZ artwork prints are distinct products, not equivalent event flyers.
Edition / variant
15 August 1992 Tasco event with PEZ's purple/mauve long-haired moustached figure, outstretched hand, planetary spheres, printed PEZ © ’92 signature and cream/brown reverse announcing final joint Labrynth/2000AD date. A separate graphic and programme from original TMR-000953 for 25 April and the successor in-session 19 September flyer; no numbered limited edition asserted.
Condition
Very Good photographic appearance, provisional and ungraded; minor edge/corner softening, fine surface/handling wear and slight upper-margin/edge stress.
Completeness
Apparently complete original double-sided single-sheet original event flyer: full PEZ face and date-specific reverse with programme, announcement, ticket prices, attractions and route map. No separately issued original insert, card or ticket established.
Absolute rarity
Unknown. No print-run, certified first printing, surviving copy count or precisely identified printing variant.

Catalogue note

Advertised programme: MAIN ARENA: ADRIAN AGE; BILLY BUNTER; EASY MO; VINYL MATT; ROGER JOHNSON; TOKEN PACE; LLOYD ANTHONY; RANDALL; UNITY. LOVE LOUNGE: STUART BANKS; PEPE; SARA H.B.; PESHAY. Thirteen named DJs in two separate areas, without individual play times or MC names. The Love Lounge specifically advertises revisiting summer 1988–89 tunes and a Love, Peace & Unity ethos. Advertised programme only; no guarantee of actual participation.

Graphic-design significance: PEZ's richly layered mauve/purple celestial image combines a long-haired moustached human-like portrait and raised hand with planets/orbs, hand-drawn dark line-work, starfield, painterly texture and 'Labrynth 2000 AD' arced around a gigantic lower foreground planet and DESIRE ’92. The original PEZ © ’92 stylised signature is printed near the lower-right side. Reverse uses restrained sepia/brown serif typography, centralised hierarchical headings, separate Main Arena/Love Lounge blocks, explicit last-joint-event announcement and full transport map. Phatmedia independently names PEZ as this exact 15 August print's designer. No model/portrait identity inferred.

Historical context: On Saturday 15 August 1992 Labrynth and 2000 AD Productions jointly advertised another Desire ’92 at Tasco Warehouse, 138–140 Nathan Way, Plumstead. Their reverse declares 'THIS WILL BE THE LAST EVENT THAT THE LABRYNTH CREW AND THE 2000 AD CREW WILL BE STAGING TOGETHER', offering primary evidence for an intended split of event production, not proof their broader organisational relationship ended forever. The same message advertises free hats, T-shirts and whistles; £10 member / £15 nonmember admission differs from other Desire dates. Main Arena brings Adrian Age, Billy Bunter, Easy Mo, Vinyl Matt, Roger Johnson, Token Pace, Lloyd Anthony, Randall and Unity; the Love Lounge bills Stuart Banks, Pepe, Sara H.B. and Peshay for a self-consciously nostalgic 1988–89 musical set. Phatmedia corroborates exact date, venue, both organisers and the PEZ artwork, and a 1995 firsthand interview by 2000 AD promoters Mick and Phil illuminates the series' origins. A later Tasco reunion event presents Vinyl Matt, Unity, Token Pace and Roger Johnson as original DJs. Separately, London Museum preserves a 1992 Desire Tasco handbill, but same 15 August printing has not been verified.

Production note: Detailed colour/airbrush/composite front with brown monochrome typography and route map on off-white back; exact printing method, production workflow, paper stock or print quantity unverified.

Condition note: Colours and PEZ figure/planet illustration remain vivid; main graphic, printed dated signature and Desire title intact. Minor small surface scratches/specks visible in the dark illustrated field and along edges, with mild softening on top corners and a tiny upper-left margin crease. Reverse remains crisp and fully legible, minor top-right corner fold/handling waviness and slight marginal wear. No conspicuous deep horizontal fold, significant staining, large tear or missing paper seen. No in-hand tests of original stock, trimming, repairs, mounting remnants or exact size; this is not a professional grade.

Confidence / uncertainty: 15 August 1992, venue, original two-room DJ names, nostalgic Love Lounge concept, admission levels, access map, announced promoter partnership finale and PEZ printed mark are physically verified. Exact artist identification supported by independent event-specific specialist attribution. 'Last event together' is a promoter's statement of intention; verify no actual dissolution/attendance. Original Love Lounge spells 'SARA H.B.' rather than previously used 'Sarah H.B.' person authority; reuse existing Sarah H.B. with original spelling preserved in billing, without inventing personal biography. Original 'UNITY' was previously proposed as DJ Unity in the current September Desire accession: reuse exactly the same DJ stage identity/slug, not Unity Records. Adrian Age, Roger Johnson and Lloyd Anthony were also proposed in that prior session; avoid duplicate proposals. Vinyl Matt, Token Pace and Easy Mo now proposed on repeating physical credits and original reunion sources.
