Catalogue note
Original VICE UK free Volume 6 Number 6, The Mexican Issue, associated with the first VICE México publication and international launch in July 2008; global version was catalogued Volume 15 Issue 6 and its articles posted from June. A huge archival milestone: VICE itself remembers the 2008 issue as the Mexico office's launch, internationally distributed in 20 territories and translated into seven languages per contemporary launch statement. The distinctive cover shows a costumed person beside a large grey animal-character head in Mexico City's Chapultepec Park, photographed by Martha Álvarez, whose 'The Kids in Chapultepec Park' essay is referenced as p64. Original UK contributor page identifies guest editor Gabriela Gómez-Mont, Mexican novelist Guillermo Fadanelli, photographer Stefan Ruiz (telenovela portraits that developed into The Factory of Dreams) and Álvarez. Original double fashion spreads 'Esa Mamacita' are by photographer Napoleón Habeica, with styling by Nini Blancq-Cazaux and makeup/hair María del Pilar Senderos. Rear carries original British-store American Apparel / Viva Radio advertisement. The UK number and UK advertising must be retained rather than replacing with global numbering, and different international local-content variants cannot be presumed identical.
