Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC)
NGC was founded in 1987 to provide independent certification for coins, tokens and medals. It grades numismatic objects using the 1–70 Sheldon numerical scale and encapsulates certified material in labelled holders; third-party grading has become a major part of modern numismatic markets because the holder records an external assessment of authenticity and condition.
Why it matters
TMR treats an NGC holder as part of an object’s documented collecting history, while keeping the grading company’s commercial grade distinct from TMR’s separate Archive Importance assessment.
