Catalogue note
The Face Vol. 2 No. 17, February 1990, with Sinéad O’Connor photographed by Jürgen Teller and the major cover feature “The Right to Party — HM Government vs Acid House.” The issue documents the confrontation between Britain’s acid-house/free-party scene and government attempts to control large unlicensed parties at a crucial moment in rave history. Its O’Connor cover also coincided with the breakthrough period of “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Rear cover: period Benson & Hedges Special Filter advertisement with contemporary UK health warning.
Why this object matters
The Right to Party report is a consequential contemporary document of the conflict around acid house, paired with Teller’s O’Connor cover. Retain Gold at 9.3, but the record does not establish exceptional copy provenance or foundational status sufficient for 9.8.
Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
