Technopolis
The Astoria · every Saturday · 10pm–6am · Kaos artwork · Ray Keith / Colin Dale / Grooverider
1992 · weekly Saturday programme; exact issue/distribution date not printed · ★ Gold Star object
Original double-sided Technopolis rave flyer for the Astoria, 157 Charing Cross Road, London, advertising an all-night Saturday programme from 10pm to 6am in 1992. Its Kaos-attributed futuristic artwork fronts an unusually documentary reverse: Ray Keith, Colin Dale, Grooverider, Ellis D and Devious D appear among the DJs, the production rhetoric promises lasers, projections and 22K of sound, and admission includes a half-price invitation to continue into the Breakfast Club at Busby's from 5am to 11am. The flyer therefore captures both the visual futurism and the practical all-night infrastructure of early-1990s central-London rave culture.

Catalogue note
Advertised programme: Main arena: Ray Keith; Colin Dale; Grooverider; Tin-Tin; M.D.A.; Pedro; Ellis D; Devious D; Torchman; guest DJs; M.C. Nasty. Alternative room: Tamsin; Colin Aubury; Crazy D; Adam-X; J.C.B. Printed spellings preserved exactly; TMR links the printed 'Ellis D' at high confidence to existing Ellis Dee authority.
Graphic-design significance: Kaos-attributed front artwork combines an enormous red human head, embedded mechanical/creature details, night-city architecture, floating spheres and a receding red-and-white checkerboard. The futuristic airbrushed/computer-inflected visual language closely matches the flyer’s rhetoric of a transformed 'techno-paradise'.
Historical context: The flyer calls Technopolis 'London's leading weekend rave' and advertises an all-nighter every Saturday at the Astoria, 157 Charing Cross Road, from 10pm to 6am. Phatmedia documents the Technopolis launch at the Astoria on 24 April 1992 and names Nut Nut Promotions Astoria as organiser. Simon Reynolds independently recalls Nut-Nut Promotions operating the Breakfast Club at Busby's, the same 157 Charing Cross Road complex. The reverse's half-price Breakfast Club invite therefore records a linked overnight/after-hours ecosystem rather than two unrelated promotions.
Production note: Not established from supplied photographs.
Condition note: Front shows multiple visible surface scratches/abrasions, notably across the upper left and blue field, plus general handling wear and corner/edge wear. Reverse shows pronounced brown adhesive-like staining/soiling at all four corners and along parts of the upper edge, with creasing and handling marks. Printing remains strongly legible and the colour artwork remains vivid.
Confidence / uncertainty: 1992 is specialist-supported but not printed on this particular weekly flyer. The exact distribution date is unknown. 'Kaos' is retained as the printed/specialist-supported design credit without claiming a resolved legal identity. Several abbreviated performers remain exact printed credits only.
