Catalogue note
Original 1995 advance teaser and mailing-list card for ESP Promotions' Dreamscape 20 — The Big Outdoors, held at Brafield on 9 September 1995. The front announces a 15–20,000 capacity outdoor event, more than 50 DJs, House/Garage, Happy Hardcore, Techno, Jungle and Drum & Bass, with 6pm–8am hours subject to licence. The reverse is a pre-addressed Dreamscape mailing-list application to ESP Promotions Ltd in Finedon. Official Dreamscape history later described the event as a 20,000-raver return to Brafield and a crowning moment in the promoter's history, making this early-stage teaser an unusually useful document of how the landmark event was marketed before the final bill was publicised.
Advertised programme: No performers are named on this advance teaser. Front promises 'OVER 50 TOP CLASS DJ'S'. The eventual event is independently documented as a four-arena Dreamscape 20 programme, but that later bill is not retroactively printed into this object's physical content.
Graphic-design significance: The face is deliberately typographic and information-led: a black ground, extruded red DREAMSCAPE 20 identity, enormous white 'THE BIG OUTDOORS' line and oversized blue 'OVER 50' promise. Its restraint is appropriate to a teaser card: the design withholds detailed line-up/venue information and sells scale instead. The reverse is entirely functional postal design with a mailing-list questionnaire and pre-addressed ESP Promotions return panel.
Historical context: Dreamscape's official history describes Dreamscape 20 'The Big Outdoors' in September 1995 as Murray Beetson's return to Brafield for 20,000 ravers and calls it the pinnacle/crowning moment of his career. DJ Mag later quoted Dreamscape co-founder Steve Murray remembering the event's festival elements — fire breathers, circus acts, motorcycles, axes/chainsaws and sky lasers — and identifying it as a favourite Dreamscape event. Specialist flyer and tape archives independently date Dreamscape 20 to 9 September 1995 and document the later four-arena, roughly 48-DJ programme. This card predates that detailed stage of promotion and is therefore a distinct campaign object.
Production note: Glossy colour promotional face with monochrome postal/mailing-list reverse on card stock; exact printing process and stock not established.
Condition note: Excellent appearance, ungraded. Very light edge/corner handling and minor surface wear only. Front colour and reverse typography remain strong; no significant folds, tears, staining or paper loss visible.
Confidence / uncertainty: Exact event number, title, day/month, advertised hours and capacity claim are physically printed. Year 1995 is independently verified by Dreamscape's official history and multiple specialist archives. The front's 'Capacity 15 to 20,000' and 'OVER 50 top class DJ's' are advance promotional claims; later specialist archives describe 20,000 ravers and approximately 48 named DJs plus MCs across four arenas, so the discrepancy is preserved rather than harmonised. 'Subject to Licence' is physically printed beside the 6pm–8am hours.
