Catalogue note
Original fold-out programme for 2000AD Productions' Desire at Roller Express, Edmonton, on 27 August 1994. Branded as 'London's Original August Bank Holiday Dance Party', the event divides 21 DJs across three rooms: hardcore/jungle/drum & bass in Arena One, house/progressive/trance/old-school classics in Arena Two and Eruption FM hardcore anthems in Arena Three. The object also preserves a Creative Image design credit, national ticket-outlet network and free Tottenham Hale minibus service.
Advertised programme: Arena One — Slipmatt, Fabio, Micky Finn, Hype, Swann-E, Dougal, Food Junky, Swift & Zinc, Demolition Cru; MCs Rage & Matrix. Arena Two — Matt Maurice, Mellow S, Steve B, Sarah Chapman, Lawrence Bagnall. Arena Three / Eruption FM Crew — printed as Niki Blackmarket, Clarky, Manic, Crossfader, Loxy, Steele, Justice & Crille.
Graphic-design significance: The design combines a glossy airbrushed / computer-collage image of a chain-costumed figure against a red-blue science-fiction landscape with heavily distorted metallic DESIRE lettering and repeated radiating graphics. The opened interior reuses the same figure as a programme backdrop, while the reverse turns the image into a dense ticket-outlet field. The explicit Creative Image credit gives the object a useful studio attribution.
Historical context: Specialist rave archives independently list Desire at Roller Express on 27 August 1994 under 2000AD Productions. Dankew's Roller Express chronology shows Desire events there on 28 May, 9 July, 27 August and 1 October 1994, while Boro Six describes the July event as part of a recurring 2000AD Desire series. Surviving tape-pack archives preserve a 1994 'Desire — Best of Roller Express' set containing Food Junkie, Slipmatt, Fabio, Micky Finn, Dougal, Swan-E and Hype, closely matching the principal Arena One billing on this flyer.
Production note: Full-colour commercial print on coated paper/card stock; exact process and stock weight not established.
Condition note: Good to Very Good appearance, ungraded. Original folds remain intact with visible fold wear, light edge and corner handling, scattered surface rubbing and minor small marks. The cover shows a few light scratches and localised wear near the fold; the reverse and interior show modest rubbing and fold whitening. Colour remains strong and all event, line-up and ticket text is legible. No major tear or missing panel visible.
Confidence / uncertainty: The exact event date, hours, venue/address, three-room programme, admission, free minibus, national outlet list and Creative Image design credit are physically verified. 'Niki Blackmarket' is the flyer's printed spelling and is linked at high confidence to the existing Nicky Blackmarket authority while preserving the source spelling. The printed 'EST. 1988' markings are retained as promoter claims and are not independently treated as a formal founding date.
