Biography
Person.
Carlos Ezquerra (1947–2018) was a Spanish comics artist whose character design and energetic drawing helped establish the visual identity of 2000 AD from its earliest years. He co-created Judge Dredd with John Wagner, designing the character’s classic uniform and giving Mega-City One its first distinctive visual form; he also co-created Strontium Dog, Rat Pack and Major Eazy. Ezquerra’s drawing is immediately recognisable for its bold silhouettes, dense technological detail, dry-brush texture and extraordinary ability to make invented worlds look functional, battered and inhabited.
His career extended far beyond Dredd: he worked on A.B.C. Warriors, Judge Anderson and Cursed Earth Koburn, drew early Third World War for Crisis and became a regular collaborator with Garth Ennis on projects including Preacher specials, Adventures in the Rifle Brigade and Just a Pilgrim.
