Catalogue note

Original Fleetway Editions Judge Dredd: The Megazine Vol. 2 #23, dated 6–19 March 1993. Arthur Ranson’s painted cover places a tearful Psi Judge Anderson in the foreground beneath the line “Driven to Tears”, directly tying the physical issue to Part 2 of Alan Grant and Ranson’s three-part “The Jesus Syndrome”. The issue also carries Part 2 of “Mechanismo Returns”, Part 4 of Sleeze ’n’ Ryder, the one-off Heavy Metal Dredd story “Mort Rifkind Rises Again!”, and the penultimate instalment of Al’s Baby: “Blood on the Bib”. The rear cover preserves a Fleetway launch advertisement for The Batman Adventures #1, explicitly promoting its 6 March release and free Batman button badge, providing useful evidence of Fleetway’s cross-promotion across its 1993 comics line.

Writer: John Wagner; Garth Ennis; Alan Grant; John Smith

Cover: Arthur Ranson

Edition: Original UK fortnightly issue

Why this object matters

Ranson’s emotionally focused Anderson cover is closely tied to the Jesus Syndrome chapter, with the Batman Adventures advertisement providing period cross-promotion. This is strong visual and serial evidence at 8.3; it is not the story’s debut.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
