Catalogue note
February 1984 issue of The Face, No. 46, fronted by Simon Le Bon at the height of Duran Duran's international breakthrough. The contents show a five-page Face interview with Le Bon alongside Jean-Paul Gaultier's 'Six Inventions', a Chrissie Hynde feature, Boy George on style, The Smiths, Wynton Marsalis, General Public and other early-1980s music and culture coverage. The issue is especially strong as a cross-section of The Face's formative synthesis of pop, fashion and graphic design, with Neville Brody credited as designer and a Jean-Paul Gaultier feature that The Face later republished from February 1984.
Why this object matters
Gaultier’s Six Inventions and the Le Bon/Hynde/Boy George context make a substantial original record of fashion entering pop-cultural discourse. Retain outstanding 8.8 importance; later republication supports an afterlife without proving this copy is rare.
Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
