Neville Brody is a British graphic designer and art director whose work for The Face helped make typography itself part of the language of youth culture. After studying in London and designing record sleeves for artists including Cabaret Voltaire and Depeche Mode, he moved into magazine design and became closely identified with The Face during the 1980s.

Brody treated the page less as a neutral container than as an active visual field: type could be oversized, compressed, fragmented or made to compete with photography, giving each issue a graphic identity that was inseparable from the music, fashion and politics it described.
