September 2004, Vol. 2 Issue 17 of Dazed & Confused, built around Björk at the release of Medúlla. The cover presents a deliberately fractured portrait photographed by Laurence Passera, with montage by Hussein Chalayan and hair sculpture by Shoplifter/Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir. Inside, Dazed’s “Guided by Voices” feature examines Björk’s voice-led album at the moment of release, while the issue also includes substantial features on Rei Kawakubo, Don Letts and Secret Machines, alongside Kenneth Anger, John Waters, Hedi Slimane and an early M.I.A. appearance. It is an unusually concentrated record of mid-2000s intersections between experimental music, fashion, photography, film and contemporary visual culture.
