Catalogue note

i-D No. 273, February 2007, The We Got Issues Issue, with 13-year-old Brazilian surfer Caio Vaz photographed by Collier Schorr. i-D later selected the cover for its own all-time favourites and Schorr recalled deliberately presenting Vaz through a tomboy/androgynous construction. The issue also contains substantial Vivienne Westwood, Dan Colen and Katharine Hamnett material and a Spring/Summer 2007 menswear roundup, while the rear preserves a period Prada advertisement.

Why this object matters

Schorr’s deliberately androgynous cover construction and the issue’s fashion/political-design material form a substantive representation document. Retain Gold at 9.1, with the retrospective account attributed to the photographer rather than inferred from the image alone.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.

Score and assessment method

Archive Importance: 9.1 / 10 · Gold Star.

This is a curatorial judgement, not a measurement accurate to one tenth or a market valuation. Read the explanation and its evidence limits together.
