Catalogue note

October 1992 issue of i-D, The New Season Issue, with Cecilia Chancellor photographed by Simon Fleury and styled by Edward Enninful. Produced during Enninful’s formative early period as i-D fashion director, the cover was later selected by i-D itself for a retrospective of his greatest 1990s covers. The issue combines forward-looking fashion with a characteristically broad youth-culture survey: Los Angeles in the post-riot period, Paul Weller, funk rock, English football, clubbing in Birmingham and Glasgow, ragga style and consumer technology. Its cover, masthead and editorial mix preserve a particularly clear early-1990s snapshot of i-D’s transition from subcultural magazine to internationally influential fashion title.

Why this object matters

The Fleury/Enninful cover belongs to a documented formative styling period and is supported by substantial regional club and post-riot reporting. Retain Gold at 9.0 for that original creative and documentary combination.

Evidence limits: Main magazine appears intact from the supplied front cover, rear cover and contents/masthead opening, but full pagination has not been collated. No separately issued supplement or free gift has been established in the research undertaken.
