Catalogue note

Original Fleetway Editions Judge Dredd: The Megazine Vol. 2 #30, dated 12–25 June 1993. The issue follows immediately after the debut of Missionary Man in #29 and contains the second Preacher Saul Cain story, “A Town Called Intolerance,” written by Gordon Rennie and fully illustrated by Frank Quitely during the very beginning of his mainstream comics career. It also concludes Judge Hershey’s four-part “A Game of Dolls,” continues Anderson’s “Childhood’s End,” and includes John Smith and David Millgate’s standalone Dredd story “LaDonna Fever.” The photographed Sonic the Comic house advertisement is valuable contemporaneous evidence of Fleetway cross-promoting its newly launched Sega title on the exact date Sonic issue 2 was advertised for sale.

Writer: John Smith; Igor Goldkind; Gordon Rennie; Alan Grant

Artist: David Millgate; Kevin Cullen; Frank Quitely; Kevin Walker

Cover: Mark Wilkinson

Edition: Original 1993 first-release issue

Why this object matters

The second Missionary Man story preserves substantive early Quitely narrative art, not merely a guest cover. Its proximity to his debut and the contemporary Sonic house advertisement strengthen an outstanding original British comics and games-publishing record.

Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
