Catalogue note
Fourth issue of The Face, published August 1980, with Siouxsie Sioux on a Sheila Rock cover and the cover line “Special Sioux Veneer Issue.” The contents document a remarkably early post-punk/new-wave moment through features on Peter Gabriel, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Human League, Toyah, U2 and Siouxsie, alongside Pink Floyd and Ultravox. The U2 feature appeared before the October 1980 release of the band’s debut album Boy, making the issue a particularly strong contemporaneous record of an emerging group before its first LP.
Why this object matters
Rock’s Siouxsie cover and pre-debut-album U2 reporting make a substantive original record of emerging post-punk visibility. The complete fourth issue warrants Gold at 9.0 for its content and formative publication setting together.
